This is how the debate is always framed. JK Rowling says something, often wilfully controversial or in some cases as linked above, factually incorrect, and anyone who attempts to correct her is just a misogynist trying to pull her down. As a trans woman, I would simply be a man talking over a woman, to hear many of JK Rowling’s followers tell it. When men transition, we’re invading women’s spaces for our own sexual gain. When girls transition (and the language is always men and girls when her supporters discuss transition) they are being lured away by predatory men, or are being pushed into it by a patriarchal society.

In a similar vein to DC Universe Online , Pirates of the Caribbean did receive its own online video game that allowed players to sail across the ocean, create their own characters, and upgrade their own s

Divination was once ruled by Hermione Granger as a complete waste of time. However, without the art of Divination there would not have been the famous prophecy, nor would Harry have had an early warning of his encounter with the supposed G

Harry ends up going into the Forbidden Forest during pretty much every movie, barring the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 . It’s made clear in the Sorcerer’s Stone that it's off-limits to all students, but this doesn’t stop the Boy Who Lived from ending up there with ridiculous frequency, encountering strange and dangerous beasts from Centaurs to Werewolves, Dementors to an unhinged Flying Ford Ang

We’ve seen transphobic institutions make progress in the wake of Rowling’s support, and this being brought into the timelines of even well-meaning individuals only serve to spread them further and wider. I understand the noble intention, and figures like this should be demonised and called out where appropriate, but I fear we’re forgetting about the echochamber we exist within and how substantial Rowling and Harry Potter are in the cultural zeitgeist. Fantastic Beasts is still getting a third film, The Cursed Child is still killing it on the West End, and I bet the films will be all over television during the Christmas period. Harry Potter isn’t going anywhere, it’s eternally relevant and will be read to generations of children to come. For the absolute worst, it’s here to stay, and Rowling’s pockets will be continually lined with profit regardless of how loud we manage to get.

Transfiguration is the art of taking an object or even a living creature and turning it into something else. This was famously demonstrated by Ron's inability to turn his rat into a goblet, thanks to the condition his wand was

The lesson will definitely be a high point of the game as players come to interact with Boggarts, learn how to cast a Patronus charm, and perhaps even utter that famous spell, expelliarmus . No doubt there will be something fishy going on with the Professor, tho

The Hogwarts lake is visible in every Potter movie, barring the Deathly Hallows: check Part 1 . What’s a shame, however, is the lack of details regarding the location in the films. Sure, the Goblet of Fire introduces merpeople, but that’s about it. This is where Hogwarts Legacy can right the wrongs of the films, giving it more scale and de

The many different universes of Disney would allow for one of the most enjoyable video game experiences. While Kingdom Hearts did something similar, it would be incredible to explore more of these universes at the leisure of the pla

Pokémon , as per its nature, is already an open world game. The player is able to traverse across a certain Pokémon region and collect and battle Pokémon along the way. Each game follows a similar story, showing the popularity of the game ser

Rowling has also been quick to point out the amount of abuse she receives, complaining that one man told her he was going to compost her books. Other people have burned them. Because transphobes - whether you think JKR is one or not, clearly they exist - love to rush to extremes, the idea that someone has burned a Harry Potter book means we’re returning to Nazi Germany. Not only is this offensive on the level of anti-vaxxers comparing themselves to Jews with the yellow star, it’s also monumentally stupid. That famous photo of the Nazis buring a huge pile of books? It’s outside the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft - they were burning the books specifically to destroy decades of research into trans people.

Game of Thrones is one of the most popular TV shows of all time, with the series remaining one of the most popular TV shows across the 2010s. The series, based on the books by George RR Martin , takes place across two continents (Westeros and Essos), each with a rich and varied geography and hist

Flying is taught at quite an early age at Hogwarts, with all witches and wizards getting a basic lesson in how to pick up, hold and mount a broom, before taking off into the skies. It's a lesson that some pick up quicker than others, which Hermione and Ron would freely admit
